BACKGROUND: Total lung capacity (TLC), forced expiratory flow between 25 and 75% (FEF25-75%), peak (PEF), or post-bronchodilator volume response is recommended to detect obstructive abnormalities in the lung. The present study was performed evaluate usefulness of these pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters diagnose disease subjects with a restrictive pattern spirometry. METHODS: A retrospective conducted 64 spirometry (normal FEV1/FVC low FVC) out 3,030 patients who underwent all pre- measurement April 2008 December 2010. After were clinically classified into those disease, mixed agreements clinical diagnosis PFT classification according TLC, FEF25-75%, PEF, criteria compared. RESULTS: Of subjects, 18 (28.1%) 39 (60.9%) had 1 (1.6%) 6 (9.4%) no disease. Among 58 22 (37.9%), 37 (63.8%), 33 (56.9%), 3 (5.2%) as having based on criteria, respectively. kappa coefficients for agreement using 0.59, 0.18, 0.17, < 0.01, CONCLUSIONS: additional TLC more useful than spirometry, when suspected.
